Data from the Quarterly Survey of Franchising Development performed by the Brazilian Franchising Association (ABF) show that, for the first quarter of this year, the area revenue showed a nominal growth of 5.1% in comparison to the same period in 2017. The revenue has grown from BRL 36.90 billions to BRL 38.762 billions. Considering the last twelve months, the growth was of 7% (fluctuation of BRL 10.764 billions).
The survey also showed an increase of 0.9% in the number of direct employments in the sector for the referred quarter, totaling 1,199,861 employees. In the opinion of the ABF president, Cristofoletti Junior, “although the focus in efficiency still is big in the area, we have noticed that the employments generation is established since the first quarter in this year. This period usually is weaker regarding this aspect, that’s why we considered this a positive sign for the rest of the year”.
The study pointed out a positive fluctuation of 1% regarding the movement of openings and closings of stores in the first quarter of 2018 in comparison to the same period in 2017. 2.2% of these units were opened and 1.2% of such has closed. Currently, 144,527 franchise units in Brazil are registered. Cristofoletti considers that “multi-unit franchisees have played a role that is everyday more important in the Brazilian franchising, and have contributed for this expansion in the quarter as well. This is a sign of maturity of the national franchises market, which has shaped a more qualified entrepreneur, prepared to deal with more responsibilities, whether by taking control of a store with difficulties or pioneering new regions and markets”.
